Our Lady Queen of Peace · Worcester · Geography
Geography at OLQP starts with the places children already know: the school grounds, the local area and Worcester. In Year 1 they walk their local area and find the UK on a globe. By Year 6 they are reading tectonic plates, tracing shifting borders and weighing up climate change. Our sequence overview describes a curriculum that deliberately scales outwards, and every unit is planned to build on the ones before it.
Why this order
The sequence overview explains the order through four ideas. Choose one to see how it plays out across Key Stage 1, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2.
The heart of our sequencing
Each gold thread is a link written into our planning: the Prior Learning notes in a unit or lesson overview name earlier learning that the unit builds on. Choose any unit to see what it draws on and what it prepares pupils for.
Where in the world
Every place named in the unit planning, marked in its year colour on one map drawn to scale. Start at home, then zoom out, or filter by year group to see how far each year travels.
Equal Earth projection, so areas are true to scale; the scale bar is measured at the centre of the view. River courses are drawn approximately. “Worcester (our school)” marks our city, where the planning refers to the school grounds.
Sticky Knowledge
Every lesson overview includes Red, Amber and Green sticky knowledge questions that recap learning from previous terms and previous years. Here are real sets from each year group, with the unit each question comes from.
Skills that climb
Each strand comes from our progression documents. A step shows that year’s expectations and the units where pupils meet them. Choose a step to read it in full.
Vocabulary progression
Each unit teaches its own subject-specific (Tier 3) words, listed in the Vocabulary Progression. Some are taught once; others come back unit after unit, so pupils use settlement, climate and grid reference with growing precision.
Unit explorer
Choose a year, then a unit, to see every lesson in order, what the unit builds on and leads to, its fieldwork and any local link.
Fieldwork and Worcester
Worcester, Worcestershire and the River Severn are named in our planning as places to compare with the wider world, and every one of the 18 units has its own fieldwork.
