In addition, all pupils receive Religious Education as a statutory requirement
(Education Act 1996).
There are five stages for different age groups as follows:
Foundation Stage 3 - 5 years old
Key Stage 1 5 - 7 years old
Key Stage 2 7 - 11 years old
Key Stage 3 11 - 14 years old
Key Stage 4 14 - 16 years old

Standardised Assessment Tests (SATs) are currently carried out when the children
have reached the end of a Key Stage; the government changed these in 2016. At
Blanford Mere this will be towards the end of Year 2 and Year 6, although teacher
assessment of the children’s progress is ongoing throughout their time with us.
The Curriculum at Blanford Mere
We aim to provide the children with a broad and balanced curriculum appropriate
to their individual needs. To achieve this aim, we are constantly reviewing the way
in which we teach so that the children are provided with interesting and challenging
tasks. All subjects of the National Curriculum are taught according to government
guidelines. To allow children to reach their full potential we sometimes place them
in appropriate teaching groups.
