Creative iMedia
Creative iMedia is designed to engage and enthuse young people with an interest in the creative media
industries such as, Film & TV production, Publishing, Graphic Design & Video Game Design. It will equip them
with the knowledge and skills they need to design and make
effective digital products. The course teaches students how to
express their creativity in an informed and responsible way and
encourages them to reflect on what they produce and strive for
excellence. It gives students the skills they need to support future
learning and to exploit the creative and commercial employment
opportunities on offer in the digital world in which they are growing
up. This course will lead well into A-Level Media Studies, Applied IT or other related subjects.
Creative iMedia students should be able to think for themselves and work independently during extended
periods of time. This is a challenging but rewarding course which focuses on actually using computer
applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro, among others.
The course is designed to:
• Develop students’ ability to select and use digital applications
appropriately and produce high quality outcomes.
• Enhance creativity and equip students with some of the skills that they
will need in the workplace, in further education or training.
• Encourage students to reflect critically on their own and others’ use of
digital applications.
As a newly redeveloped vocational qualification, 60% of the qualification is coursework and in line with all
GCSE qualifications, there is an examination component making up the remaining 40% of the course.
Unit 1: Creative iMedia in the media industry
Written Examination (40%) 1hour 30 minutes
This unit will enable learners to understand about the media industries, products and job roles that form
the media industry. Pre-production skills used in the creative and digital media sector will be taught so that
students will develop their understanding of a client brief, time frames, deadlines and legislation that form
part of the planning and creation process in these industries. Showing skill in storyboarding, scripting, health
and safety, among other topics. This unit gives a real insight into traditional and new media sectors through
understanding job roles within related industries.
Unit 2: Visual identity and digital graphics
Coursework (25%)
Digital tools can be used to communicate information using any combination
of text and images. Products that use these different components at the
same time, such as film posters, video game covers or book covers are
multimedia. This unit aims to give you the skills to use the tools and
techniques provided by digital graphics software to design and create
effective visual products for specified purposes and audiences.
