MEDICAL INFORMATION
PASTORAL CARE
The education and care of our children is dependent upon the partnership between home and
school. We endeavour to keep parents informed about the care of their children, this may be
a change in family circumstances, physical illness, bereavement etc. Any personal
details will be dealt with in complete confidence.
If you have any worries concerning your child’s schooling, please contact the Head Teacher.
Arrangements can be made, if necessary, to discuss any problems or difficulties with your
child’s teacher as well.
ADMINISTERING FIRST AID
We treat minor cuts, bruises and bumps with cold water and an ice pack and the injury is
entered into the first aid book. In the case of anything more serious we will contact the
child’s parents. We have several members of teaching and support staff who are qualified in
First Aid who will treat or assess minor injuries in the first instance.
DEALING WITH ACCIDENTS
In the case of a serious injury or illness, we will always contact the parent/guardian. In the
case of parents being unable to be contacted, in a real emergency, the school would phone
for an ambulance to take the child to Russell’s Hall Hospital.
ADMINISTERING MEDICINES
In accordance with the ruling of Dudley LA, only prescribed medicines may be given to a child
in school. This has to be arranged via the Office or Mrs Bicker and there must be a signed
request from parents/carers. Non-prescription medicines may not be given or
brought into school.
Parents can, however, come into school and "dose" the child themselves, with prior
arrangement.
SUDDEN ILLNESS WHILST ATTENDING SCHOOL
If a child is taken ill at school, parents are contacted so that they may be collected from school.
Please keep your emergency contact numbers up-to-date.
SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISOR
The School Health Advisor, Mrs M. Toner, is a registered general nurse with further specialised
training. She is responsible for meeting the health needs of school-aged children. She works
across several schools, having close links with general practice and other health professionals
within the primary care team. She is based at the local health centre in Brierley Hill.
COMMUNITY DENTAL SERVICES
The Community Dental Service aim to help the children and parents of Dudley to keep their
own teeth for life ensuring they have access to high quality dental care. They send a letter to
parents of selected year groups informing them of a free dental inspection.
Treatment in health centres and clinics can be provided for young people who are not treated
by a family dentist.
