TEACHING AND LEARNING
THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
“Spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is strong” - Ofsted report March 2017
Our school prides itself on providing a caring and supportive learning environment. Our
children say they have good relationships with staff who want them to do well. School
Governors have worked hard to make our school building a pleasant place to be both in and
outside. We have an excellent computer suite, interactive whiteboards in every classroom. All
our rooms are well furnished with lots of resources and our playgrounds have equipment to
encourage good play at break and lunchtimes.
TEACHING
“Parents are positive about the work of the school, commenting on the happy
atmosphere, the positive way in which staff and leaders respond to any issues
raised and the progress their children are making.” - Ofsted report March 2017
Teachers work hard to achieve the highest standards of teaching and learning possible.
Planning is based upon a range of nationally-lead strategies and resources which cover the
whole of the curriculum. From September 2014 we implemented The New National Curriculum.
As a small school with individual classes in each year group our teachers know our children
well and focus on helping each child to learn within the curriculum setting.
We do this through:
• exciting and challenging each child to do their best
• differentiating tasks to engage and support children’s differing abilities
• making use of a variety of learning experiences and styles to bring learning to life
• explaining to children what they do well and how they can improve further.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT
We currently have one class per year group and classes are taught in mixed ability groups.
The children’s progress is continually being assessed by their teachers. Methods of assessment
and recording are in place to review progress and help the teacher identify what each child
needs to learn next.
“The schools nurturing environment promotes all aspects of pupils welfare.” - Ofsted
report March 2017
