EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

At Blanford Mere we believe that:

All children should have full access to the teaching programme regardless of
their ethnic origin, religion, culture, gender or physical ability.

Children should be treated as individuals, and that they should be taught self-
respect and respect for others.

Children should be encouraged to fulfil their potential and develop both
socially and academically.

                                     GOVERNORS

The Governors are like a Board of Directors who make policy decisions. The
Headteacher manages, organises and administers the school within these
policies. The Governors interview and appoint staff and decide how the
budget is spent.

Governors are fully involved in the strategic running of the school and their
role is to challenge and support the Senior Leadership Team. They regularly
check on children’s progress through scrutinising data and looking at children’s
work. Governors and Senior Leadership are accountable for the quality of
teaching and learning across the school. Governors quality assure the work of
the school; to do this representatives attend a range of events including Pupil
Progress Meetings, staff training, staff work and planning scrutinies, class
assemblies and parents evenings.

School governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities. They act
together and cannot act as individuals. Our Governing Body is made up of
representatives of the council, local community and business, parents and
staff. There are two elected parent governor positions on the Governing Body
of the school. Any parent with a child at Blanford Mere may stand for election
as a parent governor. The term of office is four years. When a vacancy arises,
papers seeking nominations are sent to every parent. Should there be more
nominations than vacancies then an election is held.
