COMPLAINTS POLICY
1. Please contact the office / Class teacher/Head Teacher to discuss any concerns. We will
do whatever we can to address the situation.
2. There is a School’s Complaints Procedure to follow if you have further concerns
regarding any other aspect of school life.
3. If you feel your complaint has not been dealt with adequately, you can write to the
School’s Chair of Governors. A copy of the policy is available on the school website:

THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
PARENTS HELPING IN SCHOOL
We are always pleased to have parents come into school to help as Volunteers. If you have
some time to spare and would like to help, please contact the Head Teacher or leave your name
at the school office. As per Government Guidelines, we do require all our Volunteers to hold
up-to-date enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance certificate.
HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
The Home School Association (HSA) is a group of people who are willing to work closely with
the school and local community to provided “treats” and extra equipment for the pupils of
Thorns Primary School.
Can we please take this opportunity to appeal to any friends of the school to come forward and
give some of their time to help us at HSA events.
THE GOVERNING BODY
Governors meet at least twice a term in school, as a full Governing Body with additional
committees; minutes of the meeting are produced. The School Governors have legal duties,
power and responsibilities. They can only act together. They cannot act individually.
Governors:
• Oversee the management of the school; • Set key policies;
• Allocate the school’s budget; • Appoint professionals;
• Represent the views of the whole school
community
PARENT GOVERNORS
Parent Governors are elected by the parents/guardians of the school and serve a four-year
term of office. They bring a parental view of the school to the Governing Body, they speak,
vote and act as part of the Governing Body Group.

COMMUNITY USE OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING
Out of school hours, the building is used by the local community. The Hall is used for a weekly
Slimming Club as well as other public functions e.g. as a Polling Station and for other private
functions such as Birthday Parties/Discos.
