About the School

            ALL ABOUT US

Thorns Primary school is a Group 2 Community Primary built to serve a new housing
estate. It is situated in the South West corner of the West Midlands conurbation in the area
traditionally known as The Black Country. Within the borough of Dudley, the school serves
six wards with the majority of children attending from Lye, Wollescote, Quarry Bank and
Amblecote and comes under Dudley MBC.

The school is a smaller than average single form entry with just over 200 pupils on roll across
the 4-11 age range with single aged classes throughout.

                                           SCHOOL INTERNET WEB SITE

We are proud of our Web Site: www.thorns.sch.life . Please go online to gain more
information about the school such as School Policies, urgent messages, what is happening in
                                                    school, trips etc

            ARRANGEMENTS FOR VISITING SCHOOL

Parents are welcome to visit school at any time during the day, but if you want to be sure of
being able to meet either the Head Teacher or Class Teacher, please telephone for an
appointment. Obviously, teaching commitments usually make it difficult for the Head and
staff to be available at short notice. It would be appreciated if all visitors to the school, as a
matter of courtesy and security, please come to the main door of the school and report first
of all to the school office.

Whilst the school is in session, all entrance gates are locked for security and the only means
of access is via the main entrance where staff control the electronic security lock.

Parking is a problem, and parents are asked to park with care and consideration on Thorns
Road, being aware that police monitor the situation and check on illegal ‘double’ parking
which hinders the traffic flow and can be a real danger to our children, as well as impacting
on children going and returning from trips, swimming, etc.

Unfortunately, parents are not allowed to use the school car park, this is because the drive is
too narrow to allow vehicles to pass (resulting in vehicles reversing back into the dual-
carriageway) - the ramp is also used for pushchairs.

There is adequate parking in Stevens Park opposite the school.

“Parents are positive about the school and the approachability of staff and leaders”
                                              - Ofsted report March 2017
